My Best Remixes of 2009

There were many great remixes and mashups this year and I will soon post my fav's, but for now heres some of the mashups that I did over the year that are worthy of being shared.

Oh yeah and make sure to comment on which one is your favorite, thanks!

Inspektor Dexx- Act a Flux (Lil Jon vs Bloc Party)

This first mashup is probably my favorite. Its Lil Jon and Three 6 Mafia's Act a Fool vs my favorite song by Bloc Party; Flux. I made it in the spring but thought I should remix it again because it had its flaws, it even comes with this (^) nice little piece of artwork I threw together lol

Inspektor Dexx- Acknowledgment on Top of the World (Modjo vs LMFAO)

The first time I listened to Acknowledgment by Modjo I found myself humming LMFAO's line "your my new obsession" so knew I had to put these two tracks together.

Inspektor Dexx- Genesis and Bullshit (Justice vs Notorious B.I.G.)

I guess it was DJ Hero which inspired me to do this remix, only on the game you mix Genesis with Dizzee Rascal's Fix Up Look Sharp. I didn't want to copy so I decided to throw Biggie smalls into the mix, who actually doesn't have a single track on DJ Hero, hopefully we'll see some of his classics on DJ Hero 2.

David Guetta ft Akon, Pitbull & Lil Jon- I Know You Want a Sexy Bitch (Chuckie remix) [Inspektor Dexx Mash-up]

This is one of my most popular remixes and it got the dance floor jumpin' many times with the help from Chuckie's slappin' bass kick.

Inspektor Dexx- Bring out the Hip Rave Anthem (T.I. vs Rico Tubbs)

This remix was featured on my "There was a Monster Mash-up Mixtape" I put together for Halloween '09. I kind of cheated on this one because Rico Tubbs samples T.I. in another one of his tracks called Hot Girls Dope Boys. Oh well, it still makes for a dime remix, be sure to check it

The Fray- Heartless (Kanye West Cover)

Kanye West posted this track on his blog back in February 2009. It is a very "interesting" cover, I find it sort of humorous when Isaac Slade says "homie". I have to admit I do enjoy this version more, even though I like Kanye more as an artist.

It's a Dada Life...

The Swedish dj duo Dada Life are getting lots of attention lately, especially from Tiesto, with whom they are touring with. The first track I heard by them was their Handguns remix a few months back and since then I've been listening to as much of their stuff as possible. Here's a few of my favorites.

Alex Gopher- Handguns (Dada Life Remix)

Dada Life- Let's Get Bleeped Tonight (Original Mix)

Dada Life- Let's Get Bleeped Tonight (Tiesto Remix)

Albin Meyers- Times Like These (Dada Life Remix)

Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike- Under the Water (Dada Life Remix)

Strip Steve "Delta Disco" EP

Last week, Boys Noize Records released Strip Steve's new EP and it's a beauty. I can't believe I never heard of this guy until now but I'm loving his stuff. The EP comes with 5 awesume tracks and I posted my 2 favourites which are already top 10 on the Indie Dance/Nu Disco Beatport chart.

Timbaland Presents: Shock Value 2

It has been almost 3 years since Timbo dropped Shock Value back in April of 2007, and now he's ready to release the much anticipated sequel on December 8th. His first single "Morning After Dark" is getting a lot of radio play and is a pretty basic track that we'd expect from Timbaland. This album will once again feature many chart toppers such as Justin Timberlake, Drake, Keri Hilson, Jay-Z, The Fray, Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. Anyways here's a few tracks that definitely give the album potential to be better than the last:

Hipster Hip-Hop

Tight Jeans = Tight Rhymes?

So the wise-guys at adbusters.org released an article a while back about hipsters being the end of Western Civilzation. DJ Steve Aoki, one of the most famous hipsters of all, seems to agree somewhat in this interview (youtube). However, some of the best music put out these past few years were written and performed by these "civilization ending hipsters," and it is a culture that embraces music and places their desire for uniqueness in the heart of their music. It is also clear that the hipster style has no boarders and neither does their music. This is a part of what makes it so great because that allows them to work with many artists that play other genres of music or to remix other genres, such as Wale's amazing remix of D.A.N.C.E. Also, Wale's intro to the remix talks about the whole hipster style and trying new things, not only wearing new things like bright-ass shoes and tight pants, but to remix and produce music that many rappers have not even tried. So even if these hipsters are killing Western Civilization they are at the same time saving hip hop and have Nas re-thinking about whether "Hip-Hop is Dead" or not, and here are a few great examples:

Justice ft Wale- W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.

Chiddy Bang ft Sufjan Stevens- All Things Go

Kid Cudi ft MGMT & Ratatat- Pursuit of Happiness

Wiz Khalifa vs Empire of the Sun- The Thrill (Walking on a Dream)

Three 6 Mafia ft Tiesto, Sean Kingston, Florida- Feel it

Ok, at first I thought this was a Tiesto remix but I guess its the original? But I think its great that Tiesto is featured in it since he produced it. I feel the Black Eyed Peas should have featured David Guetta in there hit "I Gotta Feeling" since he produced it as well. Oh well he got enough credit from his "One Love" album to move him up to 3rd place on this years DJMag Top 100 list. Anyways, heres Three 6 Mafia's new track from there new album "Law of Power" which drops early 2010.

Kardinal Offishall- Clear (Skratch Bastid Remix)

This is my first post and it's a beauty! It does not get much more Canadian than this! Kardinal from T.Dot released this massive track a few months back and Hali's own Skratch Bastid just released this dope remix. The use of some samples from Missy Elliott's Lose Control and scratching it up a bit CLEARly results in the hottest remix I heard of this track thus far.
